Fuquay-Varina is is located in Wake County. The town of Fuquay Springs, a resort near a spring on Stephen Fuquay's property and Varina, a ridge near a general store founded by J.D. Ballentine. When Fuquay Springs was incorporated in 1909, the Varina community became part of it. In 1963, the hyphen was added to acknowledge both communities.
