Connellys Springs is a community in Burke County. Settled prior to 1861, it was originally called Happy Home.
According to records, William Lewis Connelly was the first settler in the area, having moved there in 1838 with his wife Elizabeth. In 1885, it was discovered that the water from the spring on the family property had a high content of bicarbonate of iron, and the news spread, making Connelly Springs water wildly popular for its healing properties. Incorporated in 1920 as Connelly Springs, after the famous mineral water, the town thrived until the Depression and did not begin to thrive again until the 1980s. It was re-incorporated in 1989.
