Carrboro, in Orange County, North Carolina, is entirely surrounded by Chapel Hill yet manages to maintain an identity all its own. It is known as one of the most liberal communities in the South. Its nickname, "The Paris of the Piedmont," was derived from a local reporter's sarcastic remark in 1970.
