Located in Yancey County, North Carolina, the town of Burnsville is the county seat. It encompasses 1.6 square miles and is 1,623 feet above sea level. Founded in 1834, the town is named after Captain Otway Burns, a naval hero of the War of 1812. Burnsville has hosted the Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair the first weekend in August since 1946.
