Bessemer City, settled in 1756, is located in Gaston County, North Carolina. James Ormand, founder of the Ormand Mining Company and Ormand Furnace, was given the land by King George II. Ormand Furnace made cannons and cannon balls which were used against the British in the American Revolution.
