The historic North Carolina village of Badin is located in Stanly County. With an area of 1.6 square miles, Badin is the hometown to jazz saxophonist Lou Donaldson and Star Jones. In 1913, a French company, L'Aluminium Français, began building a dam at the narrows of the Yadkin Rive, which becomes the Pee Dee River, to provide power for a smelter. The town was built to house the company's workers, and named for company president, Adrien Badin.
