Asheville, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, is the Buncombe County seat. Home to Mt. Mitchell, the highest mountain east of the Mississippi, more than 100 peaks higher than 5,000 feet above sea level are found here. It has an area of 41.3 square miles and is situated where the Swannanoa and French Broad Rivers meet.
