A Cape Cod seaside resort, Dennis is known for its regal colonial mansions along the coastline. The town has a seafaring history which centers around Shiverick Shipyard. Settled in 1639 by Thomas Howes and was originally a part of Yarmouth. The Town of Dennis split off and officially incorporated in 1793, and takes its name after the resident minister Josiah Dennis.
