Franklin County, in the western regions of Maine, bordering Canada, was incorporated in 1838, its county seat being Farmington. Due to its location, Franklin County has served as an economic gateway for United States and Canadian businesses.
Historically, the county was well known for its dairy farms, lumbering, canning, woolen mills, and shoe manufacturing industries, and remains the home of the Androscoggin Paper Mill, as well as newer companies such as Carrabasset Coffee and the ICT Group.
