Unity is a town in Waldo County, Maine. It was settled in 1784, primarily by Quakers, and known as Twenty-Five Mile Pond Plantation, for its location on a pond twenty five miles from Fort Halifax in Winslow. Upon its incorporation as a town on June 22, 1804, the name was changed to Unity. Unity is home to Unity College, a small liberal arts college in a rural setting which is focused primarily on environmental and natural resource interests. It is also home to the Common Ground Fair, an annual event sponsored by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, based in the town.
