Northport is a town of just over a thousand people in Waldo County, Maine. It was settled around 1780, and incorporated on February 13, 1796 from Ducktrap Plantation; and Ducktrap Harbor, which it shares with Lincolnville, has retained the original name.
The township has a long coastline facing Islesboro on Penobscot Bay, as well as frontage on Pitcher Pond; and all of Knight's Pond. Knight's Pond is part of the St. Clair Preserve, which consists of 304 acres of mixed forest, bog, swamp, and fields, most of it accessible only by canoe or by trails leading from the town landing on Knight's Pond Road.
