Montville was settled in 1780, and incorporated as a town on February 18, 1807 from Davistown Plantation. Montville Township consists primarily of a series of small corner villages along Maine Route 220, such as as Poland's Corner, Bean's Corner, White's Corner, McFarland's Corner, and Clark's Corner, while the main village of Montville Center is located just south of Route 220 on Center Road.
