Settled in 1769 and incorporated on February 18, 1802 from a portion of Poland, Minot set off a portion of its land to form Auburn, adjusting that boundary in 1844, and ceded more land in 1873. In 1893, it ceded even more land to form a portion of Mechanic Falls, bringing the town to its current size.
Historically an agricultural community, Minot has transitioned to become a bedroom community for the cities of Auburn and Lewiston.
