Kenduskeag was incorporated in 1852 from parts of Levant and Glenburn. The town, and the stream that passes through it, share the Maliseet name Kenduskeag, meaning eel weir place, because Samuel de Champlain witnessed Indians trapping eels at that place in 1604.
