Barrow is the seat of the North Slope Borough, located in the most northern settlement on the mainland in Alaska. It is the northernmost point in the United States. It is situated on permafrost which is 1,300 feet deep in some places. The sun does not rise in Barrow between November 18 and January 24, and it does not set between May 10 and August 2.
