Akutan, in the Aleutians East Borough, is a city in the eastern Aleutians Islands in Alaska. Established in 1878 as a trading port and fur storage for the Western Fur & Trading Company, it was known for its commercial cod fishing and processing plant. In June of 1942, the United States government moved all Akutan residents to Ketchikan, and it was re-established in 1944.
