The port city of Albany is located in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia. The traditional owners of the area are the Menang Noongar people and their name for this region was Kinjarling which means 'place of rain'. (The climate in Albany differs significantly to many parts of Western Australia) Albany is Western Australia's oldest town having being founded in 1826.
Formerly a whaling town, Albany today is a popular tourist destination and attractions include the former whaling station, whaling having being halted in 1979.
