Category Description:

Town in outback South Australia that was created as a base for a missile test range in 1947. Named after the aboriginal throwing implement of the same name, the town was originally in a closed defence area, the town was opened to the public in 1982. The town was briefly a home to the Woomera immigration detention centre prior to it's closure after a controversial existence.
