Schnauzers, a breed which originated in Germany in the 1400s, is named after the word "schnauze," which means "snout" in German. The snout of a Schnauzer is bearded and is considered one of the distinctive marks of the breed. Although they are a terrier type of dog, their temperaments are much different from the usual terrier, as they are calmer and far less energetic than most terriers.
