Originally bred to be a guard dog, the black Russian terrier is not a real terrier but is a mixture of about 20 breeds, including the Airedale, rottweiler, giant schnauzer, newfoundland, and the now extinct Moscow water dog. Due to the fact that it was developed in the former USSR by the government, the exact history of the breed is a secret to this day.
