The Tenterfield Terrier originated from Fox Terriers and Fox Terrier type dogs brought to Australia by English settlers over 100 years ago. A smooth coated, small terrier similar but smaller than a Jack Russell the coat is usually a combination of black, white and tan. One of the few breeds of dogs to have been developed in Australia, the Australian National Kennel Council recognised the Tenterfield Terrier as a new breed in 2002.
