The breed of domestic dog known as the American bulldog is the closest relative of the old English bulldog due to the fact that American breeders didn't change the appearance of the ancestor while the European breeders do. Most people consider there to be two types of American bulldog, the Scott and the Johnson types, though many American bulldogs are a mixture of the two types. Both are named in honor of the breeders who did so much to develop them, Allen Scott and John Johnson. A sturdy and stocky build, short, and smooth hair are identifiers of this breed.
The Scott type frequently look like a leggy and oversized pit bull, while the Johnson type has a shorter muzzle. They are generally friendly and they can be child-friendly, as long as they are socialized while they are young.
