The Redbone Coonhound originated in the US when Scottish immigrants arrived in the 1700s with their red foxhounds. Red foxhounds were later imported from Ireland and the Redbone Coonhound evolved when breeders focused on obtaining a redcoated hunting dog. The AKC recognised the Redbone Coonhound as a breed in 2009.
