Category Description:

Warts are a viral skin disorder characterized by a firm abnormal rough growth or elevated blemish, typically appearing on the hands and feet. They look like solid blisters or cauliflower-like dapples on the skin. The identified cause of warts is the human papillomavirus (HPV). Contagious or communicable, warts can be easily passed through physical contact. Infection is deemed widely developed.

Most cases of warts are considered harmless and there are as many as ten varieties of the infection with varying shapes, site of infection, and the type of human papillomavirus involved. One type of wart is the common wart which can be described as a raised wart with roughened surface. The flat wart on the other hand is a small and smooth flattened wart resembling the color of the skin and likely to appear in large numbers. The digitate wart is a thread-like wart usually growing on the face, eyelids, and lips. The plantar wart is one that occurs as a hard lump usually with multiple black specks in the center. Tightly clustered plantar-type warts are called mosaic wart and they typically affect the hands and soles. The cauliflower-looking wart clusters are called periungual wart and they are usually found around the nails. The venereal wart is a wart infection on the genitalia.
