Fred Astaire (May 10, 1899-June 22, 1987), renowned actor, dancer, choreographer, and singer, was in the performing arts for 76 years, having appeared in 31 musicals. He has been credited for inspiring dancers from Gene Kelly to Michael Jackson, as well as Rudolf Nureyev. His real name was Friedrich Emanuel Austerlitz, and he is most often associated with his dance partner, Ginger Rogers.
