Russian composer of the Romantic era, who wrote some of the most popular pieces in the current classical repertoire, such as the 1812 Overture (to commemorate Russia's defense of Moscow against Napoleon), his ballets (Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker), and his symphonies.

Born 1840; died 1893.
