The British author and poet, Rudyard Kipling, was born in Bombay, India, in 1865. He was the first English language writer to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. He is perhaps best known for "The Jungle Book" and "Kim", and the poems "Gunga Din", "Tommy" and "If".
