Born in Wales on September 13, 1916, Roald Dahl was a British short story writer, novelist, and screenwriter. Well known works for children include James and the Giant Peach, The Twits, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He was instrumental in developing the Wade-Dahl-Til valve, a cerebral shunt inspired by his young son's hydrocephalus. He was a secret agent with Britain's Foreign Intelligence Service, MI-6. He married actress Patricia Neal whose rehabilitation he oversaw before divorcing her in 1983, nearly twenty years later. He died November 23, 1990 of myelodysplastic anemia.
