Joseph Conrad (1857 - 1924) was born in Poland as Jozef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski. He became a British subject in 1866. His best known works include Lord Jim, Victory and The Secret Agent. Coppola's film Apocalypse Now was adapted from his novel, Heart of Darkness.
