Born in England in 1849, Frances Hodgson Burnett emigrated to the United States in 1865. Her first novel, That Lass o' Lowrie's, about working class life in Lancashire was published in 1877, but she is best known for her later novels for children, The Secret Garden, and Little Lord Fauntleroy.
