Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoniis commonly known as simply Michelangelo. He lived from 1475 to 1564 and was an Italian Renaissance sculptor, painter, poet, engineer and architect. He is best known for his sculptures of David and the Pietà , and for his scenes in the Sistine Chapel. He was also the architect of St. Peter's Basilica.
