A wonderful trip of a lifetime! Stone Horse was knowledgable, supportive, responsive, and provides just the right amount of rugged. They even accommodated my dietary restrictions. This was a real camping + horseback riding trip, complete with a tent and sleeping bag. The horses were sure footed, well behaved, and took great care of the riders. The weather was quite cold, and I wish I had been slightly more prepared for that, but it was an amazing experience nonetheless. The scenery is awe inspiring. Keith and Sabine are wonderful.

An absolutely magnificent trip. The horses, the food and the hospitality were excellent. Coffee in the morning and a hot water bottle before bed framed each day filled with stunning landscape, wildlife and roaming herds of horses, sheep, goats and yaks, and best of all the riding was varied and loads of fun . I couldn’t more highly recommend Sabine and Keith of Stone Horse Mongolia to host you on a trip of a lifetime.

This trip was a long time coming but ended up exceeding my expectations. My friends and I started planning our Gorkhi Terelj National Park trip with Stone Horse trip in 2019, but...Covid. Keith worked with us to schedule our trip, reschedule, and then reschedule again. It finally happened September 2022. And wow, what a trip!

The scenery was beautiful, the horses were smooth, well trained, and had incredible endurance, the food was delicious, and our guide, Sabine, and staff were terrific. We saw elk, roe deer, grouse, and golden eagles and heard wolves almost every night.

If you're thinking about doing this trip, know that is challenging. You'll be riding about 5 hours / day over varied terrain and speeds, and moving camp most days. However, you'll be traveling with an experienced team and can expect things like imported chocolate for dessert and a hot water bottle as you head off to bed.

Keith also helped us schedule some activities in and around Ulaanbaatar before and after the trip. We visited the giant Chinggis Khan statue, did a city tour, a trip to Hustai Park (to see wild Pzewalski Horses), and a visit to the Black Market.

This was the trip of a lifetime for me and I'm so glad that I did it! Stone Horse was wonderful to work with every step of the way and I highly recommend them.

I rode with Stone Horse in September 2022's 14 day Khan Khentii Mountain Expedition. This is my second trip with Stone Horse.

Sabine, Keith and the Mongolian team ensured we were well fed, hydrated and warm (quite a feat with sub-zero fall nights). More importantly, they take great care of the Stone Horse herd, and it shows: their horses are calm, well-adjusted and willing trail partners. And just as crucially, they ensure that we leave nothing behind to sully the environment: every scrap of refuse we generate is packed up and carried back to base for responsible disposal.

The tents (super easy to set up) and sleeping bags (very warm) are provided, along with helmets and saddle bags, making the expedition very accessible to even those who, like me, do not ride or camp regularly.

This expedition took us deep into the Mongolian steppe, beyond the reach of mobile communication networks. Immersed in the beauty of the stunning landscape, no one missed the connectivity.

It was an invitation to truly inhabit the present, experience nature, and connect with the people and horses (and dog) in our 'herd'.

I would encourage anyone who loves the outdoors to ride with Stone Horse at least once. Experience a landscape that has stayed unchanged because it has always been lived on lightly. There aren't too many places like this left on our planet.

Exhilarating!! If you love horse riding in the great outdoors and camping this is for you. Riding your surefooted, calm Mongolian horse, you can relax and take in the stunning, ever changing scenery around you. From river crossings, mountain passes to the valley floors covered in a riot of beautiful coloured wildflowers.
Your safety is the priority for your Mongolian crew. Always checking in to see you are OK and if there is anything you need. Tent and bedding are both warm and comfortable. Plentiful, varied foods, nourishing and filling. Hot breakfasts, if you desire, picnic lunches and delicious dinners.
It was the trip of a lifetime for me - it exceeded my highest expectations, and I have the very best memories to keep forever. Thank you to Stone Horse.

I went on the June 2022 trek. It was an amazing experience, once in a lifetime trip. Even though my trail riding experience was limited, the entire team treated me with respect and always helped me with a smile or word of encouragement. I am ever grateful to Keith, Sabine and the horse guides for giving a novice like me a rewarding experience. My other guide, Ankhtuya was totally awesome and I learned so much from her. Huge shout out to the drivers, Baatar and Davaa. My favorite memory...eating Russian yogurt in my ger on the Mongolian steppes.

I went on a horse trek with Stone Horse Mongolia in June 2022 and it was a once in a lifetime experience. I'd highly recommend Stone Horse to others. Fantastic team, wonderful & well-cared for horses, comfortable saddles & nice equipment, good food, and lots of fun. The team is really accommodating - they will go above and beyond to cater for different dietary needs, help with travel questions & challenges, anything and everything you can think of. Also, our group had a mix of very experienced and less experienced riders, and the team ensured that all of us had a good time.

I participated in the June 2022 10-day Gorkhi-Terelj NP trek. I want to say that if you love to ride, have put in the seat time to prepare for this trip, and like to camp - this is the trip for you! This is not a head to tail walking trip. This is an adventure on an energetic little Mongolian horse that to me felt like I had a tank engine under me! The horses are so strong, and so fearless, and so willing. I want to channel the energy and bravery of my horse! Even when we had some unexpected things along the trail, Stone-Horse managed them with grace and professionalism. This trip has truly changed my perspective on life in many ways.

A truly amazing experience! So grateful to the team at Stone Horse for assisting in organising our Ger stay in Darkhid Valley. The team there were very helpful, easy to communicate with in organising necessary paperwork and willing to assist at last minute.

Arrived via the Tran Siberian train at 6am in Ulaanbaatar, were picked up straight away by the Stone Horse driver, good English, very accomodating, willing to stop at a corner store for supplies, before being driven directly to the Ger stay. Incredibly opportunity to see locals and rural Ullanbaatar. An experience we would highly recommend.

Plenty of freedom to walk around the area, feed the animals, assist in any way on the farm, ride the horse accompanied by the host, but to also retreat to the warmth of the Ger. The inside of the Ger was very comfortable, with hot water in urns that was refilled often, access to fire wood that we helped to top up, but that our lovely hosts also tended to. Our hosts had just enough english for us to communicate. Outside a good tidy drop toilet - perfectly fine, all part of the experience. Animals were very well cared for and in great condition, dogs were well trained and very friendly. Was great to see all the baby calves.

Hosts were incredibly hospitable, welcoming us into their home, sharing in throat singing, whilst we sang a few Aussie classics, and with all their splendid cooking all home made. We were very well fed!

Ended up cutting our stay short, purely because it was -30 degrees and we didn't want to overuse all of their firewood and had to go to the embassy to finalise visas for further travel. Would still highly recommend a winter experience even for just one night. Truly fabulous once in a lifetime opportunity. Very grateful to Stone Horse, our Driver and our hosts.

Stone Horse was also incredible at organising a hostel for us to stay in the remaining nights, transport, as well as a tour around Ullanbaatar to see the main attractions.

Many thanks! Will definitely return again when we visit!
