Add ReviewNorth Tampa Behavioral Health hospital saved my life. I was in inpatient for 4 days and had an overall good experience there. Dr. Hart was the psychiatrist that I saw and she was one of the first psychiatrists that I have seen that has listened to me and my concerns and she was able to adjust my medicine to help me with my depression, OCD, and anxiety.Report
I then transferred to the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and I attended 5 days a week. I want to emphasize the positive impact that the therapist Ms. Stephanie had on my progress in treatment. Ms. Stephanie is without a doubt the best therapist that I have worked with in my life. I did group sessions with her, but also did individual sessions (they also offer family sessions). She is loving, assertive (in the best way), mother-like, and always wants what is best for her patients. She uses scholarly material to teach her patients about trauma, setting boundaries, mindfulness, etc. I was able to work through so much trauma that I had while I was there. If you trust the process you will get what you need out of the IOP and PHP programs at North Tampa Behavioral Health. Additionally, Ms. Kim is the nurse and she is also wonderful. I whole heartedly believe that without this program and Ms. Stephanie I would not be back on my feet, at work, having the hope that I have now. If you are in need of support, this is the place to go.
P.S. Dr. Khan is the psychiatrist that you see during IOP and PHP and he is also wonderful.Re: North Tampa Behavioral He ... Some nurses and Doctors know what they're doing but there are some that don't. I came here with a friend to get him some help. The first day we almost had my friend agree to get admitted but changed his mind at the last second. The nurse told us if he changed his mind I could bring him back. So, we tried to do the out patient help where he stayed with me for the next two nights and both nights we ended up at the ER for withdrawals and on the third night my friend wanted to try and push through the night without going to the ER and we made it till about 6 in the morning and then he wanted to go back. Instead he agreed to just go get admitted here at the North Tampa Behavioral Hospital. We go back and the doctor is now saying he didn't meet the criteria and didn't admit him. We leave again to go back home and wait it out and less then 30 mins I leave him by him self and he goes to the bar and relapses. I just couldn't believe that they would not admit him after he agreed to be admitted the first time. By the way two days before all this happen my friend tried to overdose and kill himself. He needed help and they said he didn't meet the criteria! Terrible job by the second doctor and nurse he met with!Report
*I want to clarify my review is for the outpatient programs- PHP and IOP, so they were completely voluntary*Report
Today is 2 weeks since I had to leave the program, and let me tell you, I miss it incredibly. This is a place of healing, if you're honestly willing to do the work.
The first thing you should know is that it's group therapy. I went from not being able to speak publicly at all, to standing in front of my group talking and crying about my trauma, with no shame. It's a judgment free zone. One week in treatment is like one year outside, because you get to know your group mates so deeply.
Another thing you should know is that unfortunately there's a lot of red tape stuff with insurances etc. For example, I wasn't ready to leave, but I had to be discharged as my insurance refused to keep paying for me to attend. So be truthful about your struggles, show up, and participate- you owe it to yourself, and your insurance monitors all of that. This is not North Tampa's fault at all- we just have a broken system, and insurance runs it.
Lastly, and most importantly, the staff is amazing. I hate saying staff to describe these lovely people, so think of them as your care team. Stephanie is an absolute angel walking among humans. No one will fight for you, especially with the insurance companies, like Stephanie. She's just a wonderful human, and I miss her daily. She has this magical way of digging, and finding issues you didn't even know existed, and then helping you process them. I'm telling you she's one of the sweetest, but she'll also hit you with that tough love, and call you out. Then there's Jackie! I loved whenever I got to interact or work with Jackie. She's blunt, and will not hesitate to call you out, which I think is super important, but it also comes from this place where you genuinely know she cares about you. She is absolutely rooting for you, and willing to help you if you help yourself. I miss Jackie, and I'm pretty sure she's an angel as well. Last but definitely not least is Nurse Kim, the first lovely person you see in the morning while checking in etc. I also miss Kim. She's so sweet, and always looking out for everyone. I loved catching up with her each day. I also loved learning new things during her sessions about sleep etc. Kim was very maternal, and knowledgeable. So another angel.
I want to say this place is magical, but I think it's that somehow they managed to get 3 different women, who are adorable angels, who worked VERY hard to create a very welcoming, and magnificent environment. You may feel unsure for the first few days, but then you adjust. When you walk in each morning it's like you can let down your guard, and work to find, or be your most authentic self. I really recommend this place, and if you do the work it will change your life. I wish I had found something like this 20+ years ago.Re: *I want to clarify my rev ... The staff on unit C journey really helped me work on myself and my family really appreciated how fast they were at responding back and keeping them in the loop. When looking at the reviews I think people who had a good time here keep moving forward and want to forget what happened and I feel it's the people who didn't try and didn't want to be there or didn't really understand what a baker act was that they just need a place to talk and complain but somehow they keep coming back….I came in voluntarily so I can't complain.ReportRe: The staff on unit C journ ... holds you there for your money. such a scamReport
I was here to help myself and it was horrible. There was a patient that continuously kept making me feel extremely uncomfortable and I alerted staff who did absolutely NOTHING!! Only they thought it was cute to laugh at my situation because of love notes that were left in my room. It was horrifying an there staff should be fired!!!Report
