I was referred to John Wong of Modern Wealth Law by two dear lawyer cousins who knew of John’s expertise which would be ideal to help me deal with issues involving my late aunt’s trust. It has been an excellent referral. John quickly helped me resolve a challenging situation resulting from impossible to fulfill terms stated in my aunt’s trust regarding the specific and limited use of her house that essentially would have mandated her house remain vacant forever. I sought John’s services after asking the lawyer that drafted my aunt’s trust to work with me to have the terms changed so as to make the house usable, but he basically said there was nothing he could do to change it. In short order, John sought judicial relief and had the terms modified so that the house could be used for purposes related to my aunt’s original intent.
As a result of working with John on my aunt’s trust, I asked him to prepare a trust for me and my wife. Having been a successor trustee on my aunt’s trust, I had an expectation of what my trust documents would look like but when I received them, I was surprised at the level of detail and breadth of topics covered. My understanding of the myriad of possible events that could happen while I’m alive but incapacitated as well as after I’m gone was greatly expanded. There is no comparison of the level of detail and scope of eventualities between the trust John drafted for me and the one written for my aunt although the assets addressed by both were similar.
John presented the pros and cons of certain arrangements regarding the structure of my trust and its administration that were not just from the textbook but were practical and based upon real life experiences of dealing with the feelings of family members, which is important to me, if they were not named as successor trustees and ways to handle it.
I have been very pleased with the professionalism of John and his staff in handling my aunt’s and my legal needs. I highly recommend him and his firm as estate planning attorneys.
