Came on Thanksgiving to watch the Plaza lights ceremony from above. If you ever get a chance, I cannot recommend enough getting a room facing the Plaza on Thanksgiving. We could faintly hear the live performances from the balcony. We decided to walk around after the ceremony to take in the holiday vibes - it was so fun. The lobby was decorated for Christmas already & was full of hustle n bustle. As for the amenities, they seem appropriate for the cost.Report
Bonus points because there was a fireworks show that the InterContinental did when the lights flicked on ?Re: Came on Thanksgiving to w ... I can't begin to express how disappointed I am in the Intercontinental Kansas City. I was beyond excited to share the experience with my mother, who I hadn't seen in 4 years and had flown all the way from California. I understand that the pandemic and low staffing create some hiccups, that was to be expected. However, I received better customer service at the Homewood Suites two nights later.Report
Even before arriving: I called to request early check in because we had arrived earlier than the 4pm check in time. I was on hold for over 15 minutes because the operator couldn't get ahold of anyone at the front desk. The woman told me to call back in a few minutes. When I called back, I surpassed the operator and dialed the front desk, the entire call lasted 4 minutes. I inquired as to why the operator couldn't get someone on the phone, to which I got "I'm not sure",
Upon arrival: the valet was very helpful. I was the only person in the lobby upon entering (the entrance grand and beautiful). The young woman at the front was friendly but slow. Once checked in, I wasn't given any hotel information, nor directions to any of the elevators. My mother and I were wandering trying to find them when someone working there, gave us directions. *disclaimer, my mother and I are disabled and struggle with mobility* We trek up to our room, and the keys don't work. So I had to call the front desk, waiting because it rang forever, and finally stated that they would send someone to assist. TWENTY MINUTES LATER a man is SLOWLY sauntering towards us down the hall, shouting "YOU GUYS HAVIN TROUBLE WITH YOUR KEYS??" As my mother is leaning against the wall gasping for air. I ended up having to meet him half way because he was so slow. Turns out, we didn't have the wrong keys, the woman at the desk wrote the room number down incorrectly.
The room was beautiful. However, it was missing a refrigerator, but there was clearly a designated space. Various items that were supposed to be "standard" with our Plaza facing room, but were missing or weren't working properly (including the phone in the room). Every time I had to call the front desk (easily 8 times within the first few hours of our stay - mind you, I am the lowest maintenance guest possible, so the fact that I had to call more than once is appalling), it rang relentlessly.
I tried calling for room service around 2pm but the line just rang and rang. No one ever picked up. I called more than once in various intervals, with the same result. So finally, I had to call the front desk (AGAIN). They said that they don't serve food until 4pm and it isn't "in room". I asked about the menu for the evening, because it only showed breakfast/brunch on the tv menu. He stated it isn't on the tv, only breakfast and lunch. He said "most guests just us door dash for the time 11am-4pm"... that they just don't have anything available for their guests (except for a few cold salad options in a fridge in the lobby). So finally, I order DoorDash, given my mother needed to eat. Once it arrived, we realize, they didn't include any utensils or napkins. So I called downstairs (AGAIN) to request some (it is not passed the 4pm empty zone). Man at the front desk stated he would send someone right up. 20 minutes later still no utensils. I finally just hobble downstairs to see the man just standing there with another employee. I smiled through my mask and asked about the utensils. He said "did you get them?" My response "Would I be standing here otherwise? *cheeky grin*". He steps away for a moment and comes back from the room next to him with three plastic forks and GIANT roll of brown paper towels that would be placed in a bathroom dispenser...and stated "I'll hold it, you pull and tell me when."
This is supposed to be the Intercontinental Kansas City Plaza??? Are you kidding me?
Yes, the hotel is beautiful but the service was atrocious and embarrassing. I would never recommend.Re: I can't begin to express ...
