It’s pricey for what they are offering. I think he needs to incorporate more conditioning and work out because it gets boring and you are definitely not sweating enough to want to pay $200 per month. They do focus on practicality but again for $200 you want a good work out with it, so you can at least get your moneys worth. Also, I think the Mats need to be in better condition and an actual mat not a Styrofoam puzzle piece. Again $200 you expect top notch quality and a work out. Other than that you do learn some practical things but not enough to want to continue because it’s way to slow to be doing that every week.

I've been a student here for many years.....the people are awesome, Sensei is an amazing martial artist and an excellent instructor.

Since I started here (because of my job) I've had several instances where I have been attacked, because of the the martial skills I've learned here I was able to successfully defend myself. As a smaller woman I love having the peace of mind of knowing I can protect myself.

I highly recommend the school.

For years I would drive by Bushido Knights Rue wondering what was going on in that all adult school as I rushed home from TaeKwonDo class to shower and get to my third shift job.
Finally I was passing by on a night off and decided to check it out.
Sensei Knapton greeted me cordially and asked about my experience in martial arts, among other things I said I was 2nd Dan with my own school. I finished by explaining I'd become bored doing the same old thing and I asked for permission to watch and steal some of his secrets to teach my students.
Instead he invited me onto the mat, "better to learn by doing so I could teach it correctly" he said. I was paired with students mid to high rank all whose skill were equal or superior to my own. By the end of the class I decided that one night wasn't enough so I joined the class and have been a student with Sensei Knapton’s for about 5 years.
Sensei has a curriculum that crosses many styles including grappling, locks, submissions, breaks, upright fighting, elements of Kali and Wing Chun and more all taught in a friendly and calm atmosphere that makes learning easy and stress free. Not to be overlooked is the camaraderie of like minded brothers and sisters and I have so much fun there I rarely let anything interfere with my dojo schedule.
My one regret I have is that work has taken me far from Dania Beach and I am not currently able to attend classes. I am looking forward to resuming my training when I return.

I have over 12 years in martial arts and two black belts, in Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do. I was looking to branch out of my martial arts “sports “skills and into something more applicable for self defense. I have only been at Bushido Ryu Dojo for two weeks and have already learned useful real-life defensive moves. Sensei, the instructor, is amazing, and a great teacher who cares about each student, both in their training, and any personal conflict they might be dealing with. The adult class includes all levels, and I have found all upper belts to always be available and willing to help. I did about six months in Krav Maga, and was told that only after a year do you learn weapons training. My first day at Bushido Ryu Dojo, we learned how to defend against a gun attack! I am so excited to further my knowledge and skill, I have no doubt that Bushido Ryu Dojo was the correct choice for me to get back into martial arts!

this is a private dojo and you must be accepted to train here. I am truly grateful for the honor of being allowed to train here for the past 3 months. I absolutely love it! So much so I often attend 2 classes a day. This is real deal combat martial arts taught by a real deal instructor. Everything here revolves around the real world. At first I was surprised at the lack of A/C but it makes perfect sense. if a thug is trying to rob me at gun or knife point, chances are we're not inside. We're in the street and I need to know how to deal with that real situation in a real environment. Thanks to Sensei Gerry's expert instruction I not only have the confidence but the absolute wherewithal to deal with that threat. I also like training with my dojo brothers and sisters. Everybody is absolutely willing to help you brush up on your skills.

The bottom line is if you just want something active to do in the nice cool A/C, save your money and take a Tai Bo class at LA Fitness. If you're a serious individual and want to learn some real life saving skills, you will not find a better place to train or a better group of dojo brothers and sisters to train with. I can assure anybody reading this, that if they take the time to talk to anybody who trains here, you will find we all feel as strongly about this place as I do.

I met Sensei Knapton over 4 years ago in which I interviewed to become a member of his school. I have studied and am proficient in 3 other martial arts. We sat and chatted and I personally felt that his approach to this more private school in where he has created a culture where one feels safe that he has properly vetted the other students as to their proper fit both physically and mentally would make a good addition to this school was a unique approach instead of the hard sell one gets at a McDojo. I became a student of the school and instantly became aware that I was different but not unique in where I brought a unique skill set to the mix of this school. I met the other students who just like me have sought out this school and was proficient in other arts as well. This setup the combative style that sensei Knapton teaches that as in the real world I would meet and maybe be in altercation with another person who has had other fighting experiences.
Now personally I live in a world in where I have had several life or death altercations and found that in my most recent altercation what saved my life was specifically to what I have drilled in this school. The flows that sensei Knapton has taught me are extremely dangerous and allows one to dispatch an assailant in under 8 seconds or you can consider this a fail if you go longer. He teaches a mix of real world combatives that are midbrain reliant which means once trained it becomes automatic. He teaches one how to become proficient with knives, sticks, kicks, striking, throws, locks, joint manipulations, and limb destructions. The culture of this school is different in where his philosophy is that he hides nothing. He shows everything and has and encourages the upper belts to assist the lower belts to allow one to teach and through teaching they are learning and to those being taught to take it in from someone who has came before them. He doesn’t tolerate big egos or anyone who feels they are using this school to feed their egos. I’ve seen people come and people go and people who hop from school to school and discipline to discipline to say they have trained multiple styles. He filters these folks for the simple fact that what he teaches can severely and permanently damage someone for life. This school is the real deal and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to train with sensei Knapton

There is no other dojo quite like this one. It's more than where I go to train it's where my brotherhood is and where I have become my best self. Sensei is knowledgeable and down-to-earth and he meets you right where you are. This is a place of respect and honor and it will serve you well if you bring a willing spirit and an empty cup.

I thoroughly enjoyed the intro class the dojo is a decent size they have a good amount of equipment but I do think it’s a bit odd that none of this establishments information is online. The fact that you have to make a $200 down payment then pay $198/month for the basic package for a dojo with no AC. You have to go through an entire intro class before you get any information. The sensei almost seems like he wants to show off more than teach and I don’t think that’s the quality of a good instructor.

The Best Self Defense Martial Arts School in South Florida. While most academies teach sport martial arts, this school prepares you for real life situations, street combat, hand to hand fighting, defense against sticks, knives, guns, even multiple attackers. While the school is great for everyone, not everyone is allowed to train here. The Sensei interviews you, gives you a booklet of the material that you're expected to learn, along with required books that you are required to read as you advance in rank, and it lists the moves and techniques that you should be learning in your belt rank. If you agree to the terms, and he feels that you are a good candidate, you honored with a white belt to begin your journey as a martial artist. If you're looking for real combat skills, under a Master that teaches the art following the Bushido Code, come to this school. OSS! ~ Rey Rey Rodriguez
