Add ReviewThe Boardman House is architecturally stunning and beautifully appointed (and very clean!!!) I travel frequently for work and always prefer boutique places over chain hotel (much more homey). I was so pleased the inn matched its photos and positive reviews. The heated floors and towel warmer in the bathroom were an unexpected treat! I have read the reviews about the proprietor not being available or responsive...I texted Mia and within minutes she was downstairs to meet me. She is an absolutely lovely woman and we had a wonderful conversation; we hugged when I left. I have stayed at many B&Bs throughout New England and I would rate this as my favorite. As far as no longer serving breakfast, it is stated on the website, and for me a non issue. This is a family run business (for over 20 years) and Mia and her husband do most of work, which I imagine is far from easy. I plan to return when in the area for work and plan to come for fun too. Highly recommend. I stayed in the Corner Room (as on a corporate budget), which was quiet and private.Report
My other half and I absolutely loved everything about this stay. The management responded to us within moments- the amenities were so carefully thought about. Beautiful selection of complimentary coffees and creamers, heated towel racks- clean as a whistle, gorgeous rooms- we plan on making this stay a regular for us.Report
Highly recommend!
I had a very disappointing 2 night stay at The Boardman House. I was in town for a couple of social gatherings. This lodging is advertised as "elegant". Trip Advisor rates this place 4.5. This rating is unwarranted. The building is beautiful. The living room and my bedroom had lovely furnishings. But its a "cold" place. As mentioned in an earlier note, it is a bed and no breakfast. Furthermore there is no hospitality. I saw one guest my first night in the living room. The 2nd day, I saw no one during the day, and no one at night. I heard nothing from the Host. This as a chilling experience for me, something I have never encountered. I have stayed in many Inns and B&B, and I've stayed in a few during the pandemic. I have had no contact entry experience during the pandemic. I expect, and have received REAL coffee, not instant coffee. (The 2nd day it was "donut coffee"). I also expect breakfast, or something very simple like a muffin or croissant. This could easily have been served on the porch or in theReport
garden. And I expect some kind of contact with the host.
I also expect a room with a closet. My room had 4 hangers hanging on the wall, but no closet. Furthermore, there was no iron, ironing board, or hairdryer. The lack of basic "amenities" really upset me as I was preparing to go to a party.
I guess I'm really mad at myself. I have relied upon the Trip Advisor rating for booking INNs and B&B's. I read the description of the Inn and it mentioned it was Elegant and Trip Advisor rated it 4.5. So I booked the Inn. I should have read Reviews.
Trip Advisor, please update your review system for this B&B. It's not a B&B, not even an INN. It's a Boarding House. I think if I knew this was an elegant Boarding House, and my room did not contain the basics, and I would not see the hosts, and I might be completely alone in a very large building, I could have made a better decision about where to stay, and I would not have been so upset
Great comfortable stay!Report

Really disappointing experience with this hotel and "host" Mia. From the poor communication to the bugs in the room I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, especially someone looking for a "luxurious" experience as advertised on their website. I booked the "Garden Room" for a last minute work trip and tried several times prior to arrival to contact the inn to learn more about their arrival procedures since we planned to arrive late - no one ever answered the phone and the mailbox was full so you could not leave a message. When we arrived there was an envelope taped to the front door with directions to the room. We followed the directions and arrived to find the front door of the room covered in hundreds of small bugs...we did our best to sneak in to avoid any bugs entering with us, however, when we entered the room was already populated with many small bugs around all the lights. We tried shutting lights off but after spending about 20 minutes in the room, decided we could not stay in a bug-filled room for the night. The arrival note indicated to please email any concerns after business hours -- and since it was almost 10pm, that is what I did. I let Mia know we were not comfortable sleeping with bugs and would not be staying the night. I called and texted several times the next morning and only at 11am did Mia return my email and basically blame us for not following the right procedure -- saying I should have texted her and that all she found were "a few dead flies in the windowsills"-- when spending over $300 on a 4 star hotel I would expect to find any bugs anywhere (personally). I then called (again) and emailed Mia asking if she could please call me so we could talk about the issue - my husband also tried to reach her several times. She finally TEXTED back mid-day and offered for us to come back if we left the lights off and she vacuumed the flies out of the windowsill. Again, I asked if we could speak over the phone and she simply never replied. We have since made several attempts to talk to Mia over the phone but she has not responded to us. I know that running a B&B is not easy and often things are not 100% in place, however, having worked for several years at a bed and breakfast I know that the basic rules of hospitality and customer service still apply. I wish Mia had been willing to talk with us over the phone to work something out instead of blaming us and making it seems like we were making something up. I would save yourself the disappointment of staying in a musty, buggy, overpriced room.Report
Very cute loved the chickensReport
My husband and I had a wonderful stay! Mia our hostess was a very kind and talented woman, who along with her husband, have restored this large B&B to it's former glory and have given attention to all the details. The bathroom floor was heated and is a touch of luxury that made a long day visiting the area delightful to be back at home base. The breakfast was lovingly executed. We enjoyed our stay so much we sent our daughter and her husband to a play and treated them to a night at The Boardman with Mia.Report
We plan to visit again and take in the area more often... especially now that we have a nice home we can visit. Mia loves chandeliers and they fill the B&B! Take note of the details in this marvelous home. She inspired me and now I am putting chandeliers in my home for an extra touch.
I booked a room six days out for a work trip and had to cancel less than two business days later for reasons beyond my control.Report
The response from Mia Hymander was as follows, "Unfortunately, it's too late for a refund since it's less than 14 days before arrival as per our cancellation policy."
Their response is utterly unreasonable given that I booked only six days in advance and inappropriate given they had suffered no damages from my almost immediate cancellation.
An excellent example of penny wise and pound foolish behavior that should make you think twice before booking. Why risk it when this area has so many fabulous choices.
Room was good size and tastefully decorated. very nice bathroom. Breakfast was average and had to plan your meal well in advance. very restricted must. Did hear road traffic ftom our back room.Report
