The Best of the Web Adult categories are intended for sexually explicit content and pornographic material, and are not intended for use by minors. Adult listings are those sites whose primary appeal is of a salacious interest without additional literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.
For the purposes of submitting and listing of sites, Adult sites shall be defined as those sites wherein there exists "the sexually explicit depiction of persons, in words or images, created with the primary, proximate aim, and reasonable hope, of eliciting significant sexual arousal on the part of the consumer of such materials." The following types of sites will be listed only within the Adult branch of the Directory. Sites featuring: |

- pornographic or sexually explicit image galleries;
- sexually explicit personal ads or message boards;
- the sale of sex toys or other merchandise intended for sale to adults only;
- sexually explicit images or text in advertising;
- meta tags containing sexually explicit or other Adult text;
- an abundance of links to sites with Adult content;
- a mixture of adult content and non-adult content.

In an attempt to prohibit underage use, meta PICS have been enabled on each page in the Adult branch of the Directory to prevent appropriately configured browsers from accessing these pages. For additional information on installing PICS tags to your site, please visit the W3C. Parents who are interested in finding filtering software or ISPs that offer filtering should visit GetNetWise. Protecting children is a top priority at Best of the Web, and any site that contains illicit activities involving minors will be reported to the proper authorities. Should you discover a site that you feel may be harmful to minors or engages in illicit activities with minors, we encourage you to contact the FBI. or email us with the URL and a description of the problem. The Adult category is for sexually explicit content and pornographic material as defined above, and is not intended for use by minors. The remaining areas of the Directory are intended for general audience purposes, and in an attempt to be inclusive in their coverage, contain topical information that some users may feel should belong in an Adult category.

- Sites concerning a societal or lifestyle issue that do not contain pornography;
