The 2007 WNBA regular season ends on Sunday, August 19th and the playoffs begin four days later on August 23rd. Eight teams, the top four squads from each conference, will battle in the postseason for the WNBA Championship.

The inaugural WNBA season began on June 21, 1997 as the New York Liberty faced off against the Los Angeles Sparks at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, California. In front of a crowd of 14,284, the Liberty defeated the Sparks 67-57.

Throughout the last twelve years, the WNBA has grown to have a terrific following in many major cities throughout the United States. Currently, thirteen women’s basketball teams compete in the league.

This season, the San Antonio Silver Stars are poised for a terrific playoff run. The franchise has never made it to the postseason since moving to San Antonio in 2003. Will this be the year for the Silver Stars?

If the team can win the WNBA Championship, that will be two pro basketball championships for the city of San Antonio in 2007. The
San
Antonio Spurs
won the 2007 NBA Championship by sweeping the
Cleveland
Cavaliers
in June.
