You may know him as one of the best road racing cyclists in history, the man who beat testicular cancer, or Sheryl Crow’s ex, but today, we should all know him as the Birthday Boy. Yes, September 18 marks Lance Armstrong’s 36th birthday, a milestone that he is surely thankful to have reached.

lance-armstrongArmstrong’s life is well-known to many, and his awards seem to stack up from floor to ceiling. To begin, Armstrong holds the title as winner of the Tour de France an amazing seven consecutive times, from 1999 to 2005, beating all previous records. In 1999, he was also named ABC’s Wide World of Sports Athlete of the Year. In 2002, Sports Illustrated named him Sportsman of the Year. Before his retirement on July 24, 2005 — immediately after he finished first in the 2005 Tour de France — Armstrong also founded the Lance Armstrong Foundation, in conjunction with Nike, a charity foundation to fight against cancer. Perhaps their most signature item is their “Livestrong” yellow wristbands, proudly displayed by those who want to help in Armstrong’s fight against this terrible disease. Today, on his birthday, celebrate with him and contribute to cancer research if you can.
