Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Debuting on May 22nd is the fourth installment of the Indiana Jones series. This movie, called Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, is directed by Steven Spielberg and returns the series’ star actor in Harrison Ford. Ford, who is now 65-years-old, plays an older and wiser version of Indiana Jones.
This is the first Indiana Jones since 1989. For nearly the last 20 years, Spielberg and Ford disagreed with the direction the series should take. A script was produced that satisfied both men – and the fourth installment of the Indiana Jones series was made.
Sex and the City: The Movie
From 1998 to 2004, Sex and the City was one of the most popular and talked about shows on television. The series, which was shown on HBO, featured four female friends in New York City. By the time the show ceased production, it had become a cult classic.
The four actresses, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, re-unite for Sex and the City: The Movie. In the movie, Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda thrill their fans with this full-length movie. It hits theaters on May 30th.
Kung Fu Panda
June 6th
This animated movie is about a Panda who learns Kung Fu and then uses his newfound knowledge to fight his enemies. Kung Fu Panda is a movie that is fun for all ages. If you like Kung Fu, you will like the realistic Kung Fu that is depicted in the movie. Children will enjoy the cuddly animals that appear in the film.
Kung Fu Panda is set to be released on June 6th and features the voices of Jack Black, Jackie Chan, Dustin Hoffman and Angelina Jolie among a number of well-known actors. This movie is truly a movie that the whole family can enjoy.
You Don’t Mess with the Zohan
If you like Adam Sandler movies, you’ll love You Don’t Mess with the Zohan. In this movie, Sandler plays an Israeli commando who escapes his home country to come to the United States to pursue his dream. His dream? To be a hairstylist, of course!
His special techniques while styling his clients’ hair make him an extremely popular person in town. However, his true identity is eventually revealed and Sandler’s character is faced with the possibility of losing everything he’s worked for while in America.
This movie will be in theatres starting on June 6th.
The Happening
The Happening is a thriller that is scheduled to come out on Friday, June 13th. Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel star in this movie where people on earth are trying to survive an environmental crisis. Wahlberg and Deschanel play a couple in this movie who must work together to overcome their struggles.
The Happening is written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Shyamalan has been behind a number of successful thrillers. This movie, which is rated R, promises to keep you on the edge of your seat.
The Incredible Hulk
Fans of the Marvel Comic character will really enjoy The Incredible Hulk. This movie promises to closely follow the comic book character and will undoubtedly be a hit among this character’s biggest fans.
In The Incredible Hulk, Bruce Banner is in South America trying to find a cure for his condition. The movie will show Banner and how he struggles with the monster within. Due to hit theaters on June 13, The Incredible Hulk will be one of the biggest hits of the summer of 2008.
Get Smart
Coming out on June 20th, Get Smart is a movie that is adapted from the Get Smart television show. In the movie, Steve Carell plays Maxwell Smart and Anne Hathaway plays Agent 99. Those who watched the television series will see a lot of the same characters in this movie.
The original television series ran from 1965 to 1970. In that time, the television series produced 138 episodes. Besides Carell and Hathaway, others who will be featured in Get Smart include The Rock, Bill Murray and Terence Stamp.
Wall-E
Walt Disney Pictures is releasing Wall-E on June 27th. Wall-E is a science fiction movie that was made with computer animations by Pixar. This movie has the same director as Finding Nemo, another Pixar movie that was a smash hit.
Most of the voices in the movie aren’t done by actors – instead the voices are also computer generated. In the movie, Wall-E is a robot who is on earth and is trying to help clean the planet. The movie revolves around Wall-E trying to help and the obstacle he faces.
Wanted
Hitting theatres on June 27th is Wanted. Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman and Konstantin Khabensky star in this movie. In it, McAvoy’s character is offered a chance to revenge the death of his father. His father was an assassin who McAvoy’s character barely knew.
McAvoy’s character has to learn the ropes on his way to becoming a true assassin. This movie is loosely based off of the Wanted comic books. There is bound to be plenty of action and gun play in this flick.
Hancock
Hancock is a movie starring Will Smith that will be released on July 2nd. The script for this movie was originally written a dozen years ago but it didn’t get backers until recently. In Hancock, Smith plays an alcoholic who has no respect for anyone or anything. Smith’s character has superpowers that he uses unwisely and makes everyone turn against him.
A publicist steps forward who offers to help Smith’s character. With the publicists help, the superpowers are used for good instead of evil. Eventually, Smith’s character and the publicist begin having romantic feelings.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Following in the footsteps of the original Hellboy movie, which was released in 2004, is Hellboy II: The Golden Army. In Hellboy II: The Golden Army, which will hit theaters on July 11th, utilizes themes that are recognizable from the original movie.
The original Hellboy grossed approximately $100 million and is considered a success. Hellboy II: The Golden Army will try to follow in its footsteps at the box office. Starring in the sequel are Ron Perlman and Selma Blair, along with many other actors from the original.
The Dark Knight
If there is one movie this summer that everyone seems to be looking forward to, it’s The Dark Knight. On July 18th, The Dark Knight will hit theaters. This movie is a Batman movie that recently garnered a lot of attention because it stars Heath Ledger. Ledger died earlier in the year at the age of 28.
In the movie, Batman and the Joker, who is played by Ledger, come into conflict many times. With a budget of nearly $200 million, The Dark Knight is banking on being an overwhelming success.
The X-Files 2
July 25th
The X-Files 2, which is also known as The X-Files: I Want to Believe, is the sequel to the 1998 original. X-Files was at first a television series that ran from 1993 to 2002. In The X-Files: I Want to Believe, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reunite as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
With many fans originating from both the original television series and the original movie, The X-Files: I Want to Believe is sure to have a large group of built in fans that will be anxiously awaiting this movie.
The Mummy 3
On August 1st, The Mummy 3 will hit theaters. The first movie in this series, The Mummy, was released in 1999. The second movie in this series, The Mummy Returns, was released in 2001. Seven years late, The Mummy 3 makes an appearance.
The Mummy 3 will star actors Brendan Fraser and Jet Li and will take place in China instead of Egypt. In The Mummy 3, you can expect even more action and adventure as Jet Li brings his martial arts expertise to this film.
