Chad Butler, better known as rapper Pimp C, was found dead in his hotel room at the Mondrian Hotel in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Pimp C was half of the veteran Texas rap group Underground Kingz (UGK) which also featured Bun B. Though the mainstream music audience may know Pimp C mostly from his cameo on the Jay-Z hit “Big Pimpin’,” UGK actually was formed in the late 1980’s in Port Arthur, Texas and had quite a following.

Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office revealed that Butler had apparently died while in bed in his hotel room.

“At this time there’s no signs of foul play,” Winter told the press. “It appears to be possibly natural, but pending autopsy and toxicology we can’t say the cause.”

However some local police officials have said his death is being treated as a homicide. More will be known in upcoming days.
