In Nashville on Wednesday night, Kenny Chesney won top honors at the Country Music Awards as he was named Entertainer of the Year. This was the third time Chesney has won the award. He also received country music’s top award in 2004 and 2006.
Carrie Underwood took home two trophies on Wednesday as well. The former “American Idol” winner received awards for Female Vocalist of the Year and Single of the Year. The single award was for her hit “Before He Cheats.”
Other winners during the evening included George Strait, who took home the Album of the Year award for “It Just Comes Natural,” while Brad Paisley won Male Vocalist of the Year. Song of the Year, which is awarded to writers, went to Bill Anderson, Buddy Cannon and Jamey Johnson for Strait’s hit “Give It Away.”
The newcomer award, dubbed the Horizon Award, went to 17-year-old Taylor Swift, who is a senior in high school.
