In the continuing saga of the writers strike, the Hollywood studios made a new contract offer to striking movie and television writers on Thursday. The studios said the contract would pay writers millions of extra dollars for shows created for the Internet.
“The entire value of the New Economic Partnership will deliver more than $130 million (over three years) in additional compensation above and beyond the more than $1.3 billion writers already receive each year,” said the statement from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
The Writers Guild of America is said to be taking a recess in contract negotiations until Tuesday while it mulls over the options. However, memembers still plan to picket on Friday and Monday.
Meanwhile, protests resumed over the production of the late-night show, “Last Call With Carson Daly.” Daly’s show was the first late-night show to resume production since the strike began back on November 5th.
Writers of other late-night shows and scripted TV series have voiced their disappointment in Daly’s decision to break the solidarity.
